Joann Kushner winning BIMA 100: challengers and new thinkers award

10th May 2021

A massive congratulations to our Director of Operations Joann Kushner for being included in the BIMA 100 Challengers and New Thinkers awards 2021.

Matt Sullivan, MD of BIMA said: “The BIMA 100 is a vital part of the digital calendar. An annual barometer of the skill, innovation and energy of the sector, the BIMA 100 focuses not only on exceptional work, but on exceptional people. What’s clear from this year’s 100 is the sheer breadth of creativity and innovation on display. After the most challenging 12 months the industry has ever known, there’s never been a more important time to recognise the brilliant people whose work is having an impact not just on their company or sector, but on society as a whole.”

Joann has been working alongside founder and Screenlife creator Timur Bekmambetov to introduce and develop the Screenlife format to the UK.   She has introduced new techniques and methods to make the film industry more accessible and inclusive for people who wouldn’t normally have the opportunity during a period when the world had shut down.   Right now Screenlife Liverpool has 2 works in development from young BFI Alumni that will be considered by Universal pictures for their Screenlife Slate and she has developed a number of other ideas that were pitched at the first Screenlife Accelerator program in the UK to companies including Lionsgate, Netflix, Screen Yorkshire and many more throughout the year.

BIMA announced its list of the 100 most influential people in the UK in digital and tech, and this year Joann Kushner was one of them.  The honorer of this award was recognised when you consider that out of an industry that has over 2 Million people working in it, she was recognised as a Challenger and New Thinker from amongst them!

Joann has touched the lives of so many people already and we are only at the beginning of our Screenlife journey.  I think everyone who has worked alongside her will agree that when she works with you she is a friend, a mentor and a leader in this field and I would hazard a a guess that this will be the first of many awards that are going to come her way.

So to you Joann from your Screenlife family we congratulate you on your amazing work and we thank you for everything that you have done, you are such an inspiration!
